The Kansas City Music Hall history
Construction of the Kansas City Music Hall was part of the “Ten-Year Plan” bond program approved in 1931, with the Municipal Auditorium complex opening in 1935. Located in downtown Kansas City, the new building replaced the old Convention Hall. It is connected to the Kansas City Convention Center via skywalks.
The Music Hall has famously hosted touring Broadway shows, symphony orchestras, opera, and ballet companies. Performances occur throughout the year. It was also once the main hall of the Kansas City Philharmonic group.
Part of the hall’s legacy is the 1927 Robert-Morton Theatre Pipe Organ — originally from the Midland Theatre —now housed in the Kansas City Music Hall. It is maintained by the Kansas City Theatre Pipe Organ, Inc.
